Hm...


 I'm thinking roses in my garden, dandelions in the field, lily-of-the-valley in the glade of the forest, honeysuckle just by my door...the list goes on forever. It is hard to choose one scent for this weeks theme.
I found this picture with both fragrant roses and raspberries in it, now this is a lot of scents in this picture. I would love to sit at that table today!

What is this?

 NO blooms on Blooming Friday!

This weeks theme is Deserted...

and this is my thoughts in the matter.

The wear and tear of time has left its marks, but aging has its charm. I love it and I often say "perfect is boring". Some of the things in my mosaic will be rediscovered and brought back to life while others will fall into a longer and deeper sleep.

My greenhouse in Tyra's Garden is just deserted for a very short time, it is hibernating in the month of January and waiting for reawakening - soon the sun will come and bring it back to life. The wines in my celler however are unfortunately ruined, the winter has been too cold. The cold and deserted statue in the Garden at Gysinge bruk will soon once again look out over a green and beautiful park.

Övergivna - men kanske inte för alltid. Snart är våren och sommaren här och då väcks det temporärt övergivna till liv igen. Dock...en del saker faller bara in i en djupare sömn. Trevligt helg på er alla!

I have a dream…

... and that is to visit the Hanging Gardens of Babylon

I know I can't...but

Since the very first time I heard of The Hanging Gardens of Babylon I have had a desire to go there. I know of course that it is utterly ridiculous and totally impossible but I can always travel in my fantasy.

“The gardens were supposedly built by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II around 600 BC. He is reported to have constructed the gardens to please his homesick wife, Amytis of Media, who longed for the trees and fragrant plants of her homeland Persia. The gardens were destroyed by several earthquakes after the second century BC” wikipedia

During a visit at Kew Gardens I took some photographs that I’m using for this post's fantasy collage.

Wild, Beautiful...and Bad

The Scarabaeidae Cetonia aurata.

By tomorrow half of the month October has already passed and I must say it has been wonderful so far. Sunshine almost every day and up to now no frost here in Vaxholm, I still have my Dahlias in bloom and chilies in the greenhouse! Time flies fast and it is Friday again and once again we visit Katarina in her blog Roses and Stuff, it is Blooming Friday and this week theme is 'Wild and beautiful'. I glanced through my garden picture and found this little fellow.

I think the Cetonia aurata is extraordinary beautiful, but I know it is a bad - wild, beautiful and bad. Still I like it when it comes into my garden for a quick visit, as long as 'he' doesn't bring all the family.


UPDATE! What have I done, it's not that bad at all! I guess it is just some gardener that has complained that their lawn has been 'ruined' and plant roots been eaten by the Cetonia auratas larvae. I just have to add a flower as well. One of the last, don't know the name of it. This rose was one of those cheap pots of roses they sell in the local grocery store. I have had it for a few year now and it seems to like it in my potager.

Helleborus 'Pink Frost' - Spring in the Greenhouse

Spring in the the Greenhouse

The snow is slowly melting and the sun is getting more bright for each day. This week has been just wonderful with all the sun oozing down onto my grounds. The greenhouse and I loves it! The Auriculas look just fine and I'm sure I'll see them in bloom quite soon.  +20 C (68F) in the greenhouse, now that is nice...I bought my first Helleborus this week and it is called 'Pink Frost' isn't just lovely. This Helleborus is my contribution to this weeks Blooming Friday and Today's Flower. Remember my last weeks post called 'Pistil and Stamen's now you can see more of these fantastic little things at Katarina's place ... just amazing.

With a Scent och Lemon and Saffron

I just want to show you this remarkable out of the ordinary tulip, not like any other in my mixed tulip bouquet. It does not really look like a tulip more like a Peony with its feathery leaves and it is fragrant like my white Peonies too, a scent of lemon and saffron, very interesting indeed. Name? Unfortunatly no name but it looks like a Mondial double tulip although Mondial is more white in the colour. We still have an amazing and beautiful winter scene outside the window but frankly we are all a bit fed up with all the snow and cold weather. Blooming friday at Katarinas place - Blommig fredag och våran värd är Katarina.

Till min stora glädje brukar jag få tulpanbuketter av min man så här års och finns det blandade buketter köper han alltid det. Den här tulpanen var en av dom och jag bara tvungen att foto, den såg inte ut som de andra och hade en underbar doft av citron och saffran. Fantastiskt tunna lätta blad som fjädrar. Jag har inget namn men den liknar en dubbel tulpan som heter Mondial men den är lite mer vit. Hoppas att vi får en fin helg med mycket sol så vi kan njuta av all underbar snö. Det är ju fantasktiskt vackert med all snö men jag som troligtvis alla andra vill ju att Kung Bore nu skall släppa taget och låta våren komma in. 

Much to much of the colour of white!

It is much to much of the colour of white in my garden at the moment and the sky...it is totally grey today,  I'm so tired of gloomy weather...I need something positive to brighten up my day. As I was browsing my photos I found these wonderful roses. Now this is what I call a happy-pill. Thank you Claus for adding some lovely pink colours to this Blooming Friday I don't know the names unfortunately but my friend in you recognize any of them please write a comment and let me know. Enlighten me! 

Claus Dalby in the garden among his darling roses, now Claus I do hope you read this and help me the name of of these absolutely gorgeous roses. To Taste Tomas Edison or Not...

...that is the question.

To those of you who have asked what colorful and somewhat showy flower I got in my hand on my Facebook avatar it's a Dahlia. Dahlia 'Thomas Edison'. I know that the native americans (Aztec) used the dahlia tubers for food, but I have not tried them ... yet. I can would image that the structure would be similar to the structure of water chestnut and I've read that they taste is very different depending on how and where they grow.

When I once asked my vegetable garden guru Lena Israelsson she said that she had tasted them, but... did not think they were particularly good, we have so many other things to eat therefore the dahlias she could definitely be without. Very wise woman, but as I read this article Edible Dahlias I became a bit curious... hm this summer I'll probably have a go and try some different varieties. I grow so many dahlias in the garden kitchen already and it surely would  be fun to use them in the kitchen as well and not just have them for their beauty's sake and to attract insects to my potager.

It is Blooming Friday and today I would like to show you what I found at Formex the largest trade fair for Nordic interior design. The company Ceasar Collection - arrenged a competition for florists. Which one of these five participants do you think have the best designed 'room'.

Ceasar Collection anordnade en tävling där fem florister hade gjort var sitt ‘blomsterarrangemang’/ bidrag, här skulle man rösta vilken man tyckte var bäst om. No blooms for Blooming Friday!

Just an iron urn with a frozen heather in it but I find it rather decorative with its white top hat of snow. This was a glorious winter day but frightfully bitter cold. -20 C. A nice walk and some fun in the snow playing with icicles and making snow angels.

Kylan håller ett fast grepp om Sverige, våren känns hemskt avlägsen. Men det är ju underbart vackert så det är bara att passa på att njuta av vintern, kanske dags för lite skidor? Den här dagen var alldeles underbar med både en skön promenad och lite lek i snön, vi gjorde snöänglar och fajtades med istappar ifrån växthuset.

What a great start of the new year, the sun is shining and it is a gorgeous winter day, it couldn't possibly start in a better way. this the first post of 2010 is a Blooming Friday Post and you find more partisipants at Katarina our host.

Året började med en fantastiskt vinterdag, sol och fågelkvitter. Det kan knappast bli bättre. Lite trött kanske efter gårdagens festligheter.
