Tyra's Garden is a small garden on the island of Resarö situated in the inner part of the archipelago near the small town Vaxholm, outside Stockholm. Tyra's Garden is mostly an ornamental vegetable garden, my potager. But flowers are of course an important ingredience, for beauty and pollination. The climate in these parts is quite demanding as the northerly winds can be strong and cold. THIS BLOG 'Tyra's Garden' is not entirely a gardenblog it contains much more. I know I'm totally bonkers...and love it!

My Indoor Miniature Garden

I got this crazy and wild idea last night that I would like to have an indoor succulent garden ;-) or perhaps more appropriately put an indoor garden with succulents. I know, I know... I'm totally bonkers! This is the result, I'm not finished with it yet, got to get more plants and another kind of lighting. I lined the table drawerI with a piece of plastic coated fabric, added soil and planted my pots into soil and then filled up with crushed cacao shells
Voilà! I got my first miniature garden and it is in my living room. I'm so satisfied with the result, I wonder what my Hubby says when he arrives from Paris tonight.

Succulents and an orchid in my living room table.

December morning

Sunday morning and I'm up before the birds. The house is quiet and I'm on the veranda watching enjoying my morning coffe and the dawn. Isn't just heavenly to watch a pale december sun rising.

I have this little figurine in one of the bedrooms and this morning you was especially pretty as she was standing in the sun among the green ivy. She's actually Swedish, made in Ekeby a very long time ago.

With these two pictures I wish you all a lovely sunday./ Tyra

In this issue you meet Charlotta,  Marie and me. Kitchen Garden and Fleamarket Gardening

Rubbish or treasure? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

So very true!

"It was actually rather by chance the whole project started. In 2002 the family found 36 very old windows in an attic, they dated from 1901. My husband thought it would be a great idea to throw the ‘junk’ away but I certainly disagreed with that, I didn’t like that idea at all. Now my resourceful mind started to work intensively. Those window had a history, they were beautiful, single glass windows with a lot of charm and in a fairly good condition too. It didn’t take long until the thought of building greenhouse of them begun to progress"...read more in Toil the Soil

The peony is named after Paeon, a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. Asclepius became jealous of his pupil; Zeus saved Paeon from the wrath of Asclepius by turning him into the peony flower (wikipedia)

I wish you all a great week, this week with the beginning of the Easter holiday

and I also would like to say Thank you to our host Mary.

The result from the Ceasar Collection Florist competition.

and the winner is...

No this is not the winner, this is Ester just a pretty girl I found at the Formex Fair, isn't she just adorable?

Snyggt jobbat!

Soak the Gardener! - Blub blub in my Tub tub

Soak the Gardener!
This is my bathroom I built a few years ago. It has this marine touch, inspired of old wooden boats I built my bathroom in mahogny, with brass details and old furniture and pebbles from allover the world. There is an article in this weeks 'Drömhem & Trädgård' a Swedish magazine (Dreamhome & Garden)

Wednesday

Recycled piece of furniture.

GARDEN FURNITURE

I went to an outdoor auction in the countryside last weekend and look what a found. A pedestal for my greenhouse isn’t it just perfect. Old, worn and a bit shabby but nice, just the way I want it to be. It will be great for the greenhouse and the garden. All my pieces of furniture in the greenhouse are real bargains, they are old and worn, now I have been missing a pedestal and there it was…for 40 kronor (7 dollar). Recycle more!

Have a great day!

- Ha en fin dag, hoppas att det blir ännu en fin höstdag. Det är riktiga guldagar vi har haft i oktober tycker jag och det behöver vi för snart går vi in i det stora mörkret!

Wallpainting - I know I'm potty

We planted a seed...
Do you remember my Topiary bedroom, we have had an empty pot on the wall for some years now and a few weeks ago we decided to plant a seed. Look what's come up...an Impomea. It's not full grown yet so we cannot begin to trim it into a Topiary Impomea we have to wait for some months, maybe we can start next spring. (old post Topiarius Tyra)

TOPIARIUS TYRA - and Edward

Topiary is the art of creating sculptures using clipped trees or shrubs.
I love Topiary, so much that one day I decided to paint it one the wall.
This is one of the bedrooms in my house. During the winter I always do something fun indoors, this is one of the results.
Romantic but in the same time Scandinavian , strict and cool.
.....
The topiary bedroom in my home.
...
Empty pot waiting for the"Pom-Pom".

The ancient Romans were known for their
formal gardens and had a special slave,
the Topiarius who maintained the ornamental topia.

The plants that are generally used are evergreen but I´ve used a Blackthornebush that now is a topiary Blackthornetree in Tyras Garden! Common plants used in topiary are Buxus sempervirens, Thuja, Laurus nobilis, Taxus and Ligustrum.
Advice for plant care from Crown Topiary.
....

Cones, pyramids, balls or spirals, classic shapes of topiary but you can also do fun shapes like a hen, elephant or a croc.

Topiarius in action in Tyras Garden, I often used both hands when I trim the plants. It makes me feel like Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands, love that movie. I think Tim Burton is a genius.

Ornamental landscape gardener
