Tyra's Garden is a small garden on the island of Resarö situated in the inner part of the archipelago near the small town Vaxholm, outside Stockholm. Tyra's Garden is mostly an ornamental vegetable garden, my potager. But flowers are of course an important ingredience, for beauty and pollination. The climate in these parts is quite demanding as the northerly winds can be strong and cold. THIS BLOG 'Tyra's Garden' is not entirely a gardenblog it contains much more. Purple June - En Juni i lila

Ops! June started out with an explosion in purple, Irises, Lilacs, Chives, Sage & Rhododendron... the list could go on. I think purple is a favorite, it goes so very well with all the shades of green. In my potager there are of course very much of the colour green, the cabbages, kales, onions and so on and it look really pretty with the violet/lilac/purple. I know in July I will say the same thing with the colour red says I with a smile.

First out in the Purple parade was actually the Syringa with the pretty and fragant flowers. I have hedges with this wonderful and hardy bush. Easy to manage and hardly ever any trubble with pests and diseases. I wonderif a could make a topiary of a Lilac Syringa vulgaris.

Syringa vulgaris, Syrén in Swedish and the common name in english Lilac.

Rhododendron I found this enormous American page with Rhododendron and Azeleas, American Rhododendron Society The American Rhododendron Society is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to encourage interest in and to disseminate information about the genus Rhododendron. Members' experience ranges from novice to expert. Society activities include public education, flower shows, seed exchanges, scientific studies, and communication through publications and local and national meetings. ARS chapters are located throughout the United States and Canada and in Denmark, Holland, Scotland, Sweden and Sikkim. Check it out! It's very informative.Rhododrendron, I really do love my Rhododrendron bushes but I don't know there names, I don't even know the name of this one, it's the most common one i Sweden. Does any one know?

Have a really nice day and write something, don't be a stranger!

Purple is also my favourite colour. It's associated with rebellion and free-thinking so perhaps that's appropriate!

Hello Tyra,

thanks for calling by my blog and your kind comments.

On first thoughts your fluffy pests sound like they could be some form of mealybug, probably the one known as Root Mealybug(Rhizoecus falcifer).

Have you got a picture? It would be easier to identify then.

There's some information here on the RHS database:

Best Wishes,

Hello Dear Tyra!
How lovely purple colours. I love that last Iris. Have a nice midsummer! I belive we´ll have rain all the week, but it doesn´t matter. Main thing is that summer smells and feels.
