T.G. for my Screensaver

This is my screensaver picture. It is a nice picture to 'dive into' when I need a dose of the garden. Echinaeae and the beautiful butterfly with the fantasic latin name Inachis io the peacock butterfly.

July everything are in bloom, the lilies, jasmin, roses, dahlias etc. etc. and I me 'the gardenfreak' haven't got time to enjoy it! I have been working fulltime indoors since midsummers eve and it's so painful. I jump out of bed at six and take my coffee with me out into the greenhouse to water and care for the plants. This is the best time of the whole day The tomatoes and chillies are getting on beautifully and starts to ripen now. Time flies fast and soon I have to leave for work.
- OK I do like my job, to make people see well and look good.
to examine there eye, help them with contact lenses och glasses.

Busy busy....to make people look gorgeous!

and make them feel good with their looks.

Different people different attitudes, this is very important.

Well perfaps I can't help them all... but this dude certainly has attitude !

Back home again my feet ache and I'm dead tired. After the supper I cannot do any physical work at all so I end up in the sofa in

front of the TV or in front of the computer... yawn. A nice walk in the garden, a watering round, have a late snack from the garden a few handfuls of raspberries, strawberries and redcurrants....yummie and then it's time for bed.

Heavenly Meringues, Midsummer Holiday and Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Heavenly Meringues
3 egg whites
2 3/4 dl sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt and 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda
Whisk the egg whites hard and add sugar still whisking and then add the rest.
Put them in a preheated oven 250 degrees and turn it off, leave them in the oven over night.

Can it be easier? This makes 6 big ones and they are so delicious you just have to try them!

Maypole at the Pavilion in Resarö, Vaxholm

Meanwhile out in the archipelago Hubbe and I together with close friend celebrated our Midsummer... a little bit more tranquile.

Midsummer - Midsommar

Midsummer Day the longest day of the year, the night is so light and the air is warm... it's midsummer. This is one of the biggest holidays in Scandinavia, we get together young and old to eat, dance, sing songs and play games.

Time for celebration - put on your best summer clothing and go out and enjoy this lovely time of the year. It's party time!

Purple June - En Juni i lila

Ops! June started out with an explosion in purple, Irises, Lilacs, Chives, Sage & Rhododendron... the list could go on. I think purple is a favorite, it goes so very well with all the shades of green. In my potager there are of course very much of the colour green, the cabbages, kales, onions and so on and it look really pretty with the violet/lilac/purple. I know in July I will say the same thing with the colour red says I with a smile.

Two Irises germanica in different shades of the colour purple

Skägg iris, Iris germanica här i två färgvarianter

First out in the Purple parade was actually the Syringa with the pretty and fragant flowers. I have hedges with this wonderful and hardy bush. Easy to manage and hardly ever any trubble with pests and diseases. I wonderif a could make a topiary of a Lilac Syringa vulgaris.

Syringa vulgaris, Syrén in Swedish and the common name in english Lilac.

Rhododendron I found this enormous American page with Rhododendron and Azeleas, American Rhododendron Society The American Rhododendron Society is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to encourage interest in and to disseminate information about the genus Rhododendron. Members' experience ranges from novice to expert. Society activities include public education, flower shows, seed exchanges, scientific studies, and communication through publications and local and national meetings. ARS chapters are located throughout the United States and Canada and in Denmark, Holland, Scotland, Sweden and Sikkim. Check it out! It's very informative.Rhododrendron, I really do love my Rhododrendron bushes but I don't know there names, I don't even know the name of this one, it's the most common one i Sweden. Does any one know?

Sveriges Nationaldag 6 juni - National Day of Sweden

The tradition of celebrating a National Day in Sweden was born at Skansen. Artur Hazelius, the founder of Skansen, wanted to establish an annual day that would be a patriotic focus for the nation and he chose the sixth of June.
Why the 6th of June? This was the day on which, in 1523, Gustav Vasa had been proclaimed king and it was also the day on which the current constitution had been agreed in 1809. Sweden's National Day has been celebrated at Skansen every year since 1893.For many years the celebration was known as National Flag Day but the day has now been marked by a public holiday. This will be celebrated in traditional fashion: members of the royal family join a procession to Skansen where there are speeches, flag ceremony, singing, brass bands, folk music, etc., broadcast live by Swedish Television. källa SKANSEN

Archipelago Boat Day - Skärgårdsbåtens Dagdag 2008

I know this has nothing to do with the garden but it is a special day for us in my home town Vaxholm. Vaxholm is a very small town about 25 Km north east of Stockholm, we use to say that it is the capital of the Archipelago. Tomorrow is 'The Archipelago Boat Day' and then all the old steamers and new archipelago boats have a parade from the city center harbor of Stockholm to the harbor of my town Vaxholm. It is a feast that we have had since 1964 (that makes me think about the Beatles, the Cuba Crisis and Cassius Clay, Kennedy....)
This is a photo I took this weekend from our sailing boat and the beauty in front of us is one of the old archipelago boats, a steamer ' Storskär'

Asparagus leaves and herbs for the garden

Today we have thunder and lightning one minute and the other the sun is out here in Vaxholm. This is what we call typical April wheather hm...but it's May. So when the wheather is like this I think we shall have a nice bowl of soup for dinner together with a fresh baked bread and a nice cheese. I have some nice nettles behind a shed I think I will take some of those as well that will be perfect.

Soup with Asparagus and Garden greens.

1 small onion or leek
4 handfuls of mixed greens and herbs
Asparagus
6 dl nice stock of your choice
1 generous knob of butter and 1 tablespoon of flour
1 dl white wine
salt and pepper

Cut the asparagus into small pieces (save the tips for decoration) and chop the onion and greens. Melt butter and add onion sizzle for a minute, then add the vegetables and last the flour. Pour in the liquid and boil for a few minutes. Now you can either put it in the blender or leave it as it is. If you blend the soup add the tips after mixing and boil an additional 3 minutes.

Serve with a nice rustique country bread or croutons.

Smaklig måltid ! / Tyra

Sigrid's Iris - inquiry

Does anybody know the name of this beautiful Iris? Right now I have it under the name Iris 'Sigrid' and I cannot just rename flowers like that :-) Sigrid is a dear friend of mine that gave them to me last summer. I would be very glad for all information.
...
Tacksam för all hjälp.

Isn't it gorgeous!

Tulips in the gravel - Tulipa

Do you remember that I did some late planting of bulbs in November last year?

Here are the result, tulips in the gravel! I just love botanical tulips and my deers doesn't likes then, perfect. I think I like them so much because they are 'in floribus' early and they are so small, pretty and really genuine looking. When it's cold they close up and says -"We are freezing where is the sun" and when the sun comes and warm the tulips they opens up and says in a tulip choir - "Look at me, look how beautiful I am!" Some of the them are extremely early and they had already bloomed over when I took this photo below.

Botanical tulips in the gravel. Tyra's Garden.

Kaufmanniana Tulips were developed from the Tulipa kaufmanniana species, which is native to Turkestan. They are some of the earliest tulips to flower. Kaufmanniana Tulips are generally very low growing (some are only 4 - 5"/10 - 12 cm tall), which makes them ideal for rock gardens and containers. If left undisturbed, they will normally return year after year and gradually multiply. text: The Plant Expert photo: Tyra

Tulipa 'Persian Pearl' or 'Eastern Star' it said Eastern star on the packet but they look more like Persian Pearl correct me if I'm wrong.

These are the really early ones the Greigii Tulipa

Greigii Tulips were developed from the Tulipa greigii species, which is native to Turkestan. Greigii Tulips are fairly short as tulips go, but the blooms are very large in proportion to the plant as a whole. They come in very bright colours, like red and yellow, and the flowers open wide in full sun, creating cup-shaped blooms that can be more than 5" (12 cm) in diameter when fully open. text: The Plant Expert photo: Tyra

Have a nice week! ....do write something it's so very nice to here from you.
