Tyra's Garden is a small garden on the island of Resarö situated in the inner part of the archipelago near the small town Vaxholm, outside Stockholm. Tyra's Garden is mostly an ornamental vegetable garden, my potager. But flowers are of course an important ingredience, for beauty and pollination. The climate in these parts is quite demanding as the northerly winds can be strong and cold. THIS BLOG 'Tyra's Garden' is not entirely a gardenblog it contains much more. BEGONIA in the greenhouse

This post was originally uploaded by Tyra Hallsénius Lindhe in the blog Tyra's Garden/ Tyras Trädgård

Today's flower is a Begonia

I grow most of my begonias in my greenhouse. They really thrive in the humid, warm greenhouse in the shade of all my chillie plants. I once, now many years ago, saw Begonias grow in the shade, on the ground under the trees in Mexico. White small-flowering Begonias in the wild, it was amazingly beautiful sight. I will never forget it and now when I have them in my greenhouse I think of that extraordinary trip to Mexico every time I attend to my little flowers.

Cultivation of Begonia  "Most are forest understory plants and require bright shade; few will tolerate full sun, especially in warmer climates. In general, begonias require a well-drained growing medium that is neither constantly wet nor allowed to dry out completely."

Hej Tyra!
Just begonior har jag mer eller mindre avskytt under ganska lång tid med man kan ju alltid ombestämma sig. Under de senaste åren har jag mer och mer börjat uppskatta både blommorna och växtsättet.
Ha det gott

Hi, Tyra! This year I've come to love begonias, too. I have one on the front porch which has made the switch from Pretty Houseplant to Porch Plant, but soon the weather will be changing and I will have to decide where best to put it. I have a bit to learn, still. Yours is lovely.
