I is for IRIS

I got these wonderful photos from Hugh Stout Jr. at the Stout Gardens at Dancingtree

Hugh and Jennifer Stout have been growing, showing and hybridizing both daylilies and iris for over ten years. Hugh is both an exhibition/garden judge with the American Iris Society as  well as a garden judge for the American Hemerocallis Society. He is also past president of the Oklahoma Horticultural Society and Oklahoma Iris Society.

and at last to Bombay Sapphire...now why is it here among all the lovely Irises?

Well, I read this:

The Irises got these aromatic rhizomes...

"Rhizomes of the German Iris (I. germanica) and Sweet Iris (I. pallida) are traded as orris root and are used in perfume and medicine, though more common in ancient times than today. Today Iris essential oil (absolute) from flowers are sometimes used in aromatherapy as sedative medicines. The dried rhizomes are also given whole to babies to help in teething. Gin brands such as Bombay Sapphire use orris root and sometimes iris flowers for flavour and colour." wikipedia

Gerbera - Gerbera Daisies

Gerbera - A plant for the health.

 Well, I don't mean for you to eat it. Nevertheless Gerbera Daisies cleans the air and makes me happy.

Gerbera is this extremely pretty ornamental plants from the sunflower family (Asteraceae). It is almost too perfect, but still I do love it. Whenever I need a dose of colour to brighten up my day I go for the Gerbera it always make me smile. The Gerbera plants have high evaporation rates and very good ability to reduce levels of chemical gases in the air making it a good plant for the health. The Gerbera likes the soil to be kept slightly moist; it should be neither dry nor wet. Do add plant nutrient to potted Gerberas about every two weeks from spring to autumn.

- It was named in honour of the German botanist and naturalist Traugott Gerber († 1743) who travelled extensively in Russia and was a friend of Carolus Linnaeus. Wikipedia

I read something more about this very popular Gerbera, the meaning of Gerbera flowers in a guide of flowers and gardening. The Flower Expert

"The meanings of gerbera flowers stem from those attributed to the general daisy family. These meanings include innocence and purity, and daisies are also a classic symbol of beauty. However, the gerbera variety holds an added meaning of cheerfulness, which stems from the assortment of colors available."

Here are some Veronica growing in my garden I think it is Veronica chamaedrys L. but it could be Veronica persica I'm not sure please help me if you know. Ah... now I see that the leaves on the picture no 2 belongs to Saponaria officinalis L.

Här är lite söta Veronicor som växer i min trädgård jag vet inte om det är Veronica chamaedrys Teveronika eller Veronica persica, Trädgårdsveronika är det någon som vet. Ah... den nedre bilden är inte så representativ för där växer den ibland såpnejlikorna Saponaria officinalis så de är deras blad som syns.

Veronica, not Saint Veronica though she is a very good human being, not Veronica Mars, although she is born in Mars (Swedish for March), and not Veronica Persica (Common field Speedwell) but she is sometimes called 'Min Persika' (Peaches)

Meet Claus Dalby’s fantastic garden, that I call a ’Whiter shade of pale’ garden. This man can really paint with his plants, though his spring garden is almost monochrome it is truely amazing, so very beautiful. Claus found all these wonderful plants and composed them into a crème coloured symphony for his spring garden.

We skipped the light fandango

turned cartwheels 'cross the floor

I was feeling kinda seasick

but the crowd called out for more

When we called out for another drink

I never really understood that lyrics...hm

ABC Wednesday ‘B’. This week I'll post an ABC in both The Greenhouse and Tyra's Garden.

B is for Blotanical, yes that is correct not Botanical.

Blotanical where garden Blogs Bloom…


Blotanical is the place where garden friends from all over the world get together. Out of all the information out there in the cyberspace blogosphere, Blotanical is an incredible resource, a goldmine full of information and an extremely wide-ranging directory of over a thousand garden influenced blogs. That is pretty amazing!

Blotanical was created by an Australian guy called Stuart Robinsson in 2007. Stuart is 'thirty-something' married and has four kids, and, as if that wasn't enough, he also has a Bachelor degree in Business (Double Major in Accounting & Marketing) from Edith Cowan University. He has done a most impressive job with this Garden bloggers paradise and still does. Blotanical is very much ‘alive’ and is constantly evolving. This is what Stuart says about… Stuart.

‘I’m a gardener from Busselton, (can you hear the wonderful accent?) Western Australia who loves digging in the dirt and smelling the aroma of everything natural. Plants are my favourite thing in the world apart from spending time with my wife and family.
When I'm not gardening, I'm either on my computer, playing basketball, or taking photos.’
