Tyra's Garden is a small garden on the island of Resarö situated in the inner part of the archipelago near the small town Vaxholm, outside Stockholm. Tyra's Garden is mostly an ornamental vegetable garden, my potager. But flowers are of course an important ingredience, for beauty and pollination. The climate in these parts is quite demanding as the northerly winds can be strong and cold. THIS BLOG 'Tyra's Garden' is not entirely a gardenblog it contains much more. About me: Enthusiastic amateur gardener and photographer from Vaxholm, Sweden. Designed and built my Greenhouse and Potager in Tyra's Garden 2003. Diego Rivera

It is one of my favourite painter and it is birthday today. Born on the 8th of December 125 years ago.

"Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez (December 8, 1886 – November 24, 1957) was a prominent Mexican painter born in Guanajuato, an active communist, and husband of Frida Kahlo " Read more - wikipedia

This painting is entitled Baile Tehunatepec and it is from 1928

And then we have the famous Diego Callas.
Here are three very characteristic paintings.
I just love the vibrant and warm colours in the painting.

Summer Feast in the Garden - July

This post "Summer Feast in the Garden - July" was originally uploaded by Tyra Hallsénius Lindhe in the blog Tyra's Garden

Summer feast in the garden.

When we now have reached the second part of July we have a lot of birthdays to celebrate in my family. I have my brother, my brother’s son, my sister and my youngest daughter so celebrate all within 3 days!  These pictures are from my daughter Missy M’s birthday.

This week in July is called "Fruntimmersveckan" in Swedish, translated to English it would be something like "Ladies' Week". It is called that because these six ladies has got their Name Day now during this week. Sara, Margareta, Johanna, Magdalena, Emma and Kristina

The potager is now filled with vegetables just about ready and ripe. I think it is going to be a great tomato harvest this year, it is really looking good. I have about twenty different varieties of heirloom tomatoes to pick this year. Some are new but most of them are faithful and dependable tomato varieties that I've already tried out before. A new variety and already a favourite is 'Summer Cider' a yellow beef tomato. Very sweet and tasty. I got the seeds from one of my Facebook friends. Thank you Yvonne for sharing!

We decided to make a summer buffet with all the veggie goodies we could find.

For sweet course a very traditional, typical Swedish Strawberry Cake.

A strawberry cake made of sponge cake, vanilla custard, whipped cream with cardamom and  loads of strawberries.

A nice vine from Aix-En-Provence to go with it all. Very fruity vine with a hint of red currant, orange, rasperry and grass. Just a bit of sweetness but still with a fresh and crisp taste.

A GARDENERS WRAP

A Gardeners Gift Wrap

To wrap a present is so fun, I really do enjoy it and this time I wanted to do something different, I went for a stroll in the garden and ended up with this. I just adores the seed capsules of the Papaver, I think they are most fascinating, each one is a small work of art. They are so beautiful therefore I started out with the Papaver then...

...

POP ART

...added a fig (picked from the fridge), some lovely green Ivy, two Cynara cardunculus and then the beautiful blueish green fragant sage. I was rather satisfied with the result if I may say, you could certainly see that it was from the a gardener :-)

Happy birthday to Lena my dear sister in law!

Have a great week all of you!

What is up in the greenhouse?

Happy birthday!

Grattis !

From my garden, wild strawberries. They are so delicious.

Wild strawberries threaded on a grass straw.

Fragaria vesca, commonly known as Woodland Strawberry.

Skål och Grattis!

Hip, hip, hurra! Linnaeus

Happy Birthday to Linnaeus!

Just 1,54 cm tall but still huge. One of the worlds greatest scientist. Born in 1707 in Råshult as son of a priest. He grew up in Stenbrohult, moved to Uppsala where he married Sara and got a lot of children. 5 of them reached adulthood. Carl von Linné was born Carolus Linnaeus and was raised to nobility in 1757.

The Australien toast. Den var lika underbar den här gången.

Recept
