Hortus Botanicus tillhör en av världens äldsta botaniska trädgårdar. Det finns över 6000 plant0r, 4000 arter i trädgården och växthusen. Hortus Botanicus är beläget i Plantage ett av Amsterdams distrikt alldeles intill det hektiska Centrum distriktet. Väl innanför de 300 år gamla grindarna lägger sig ett behagligt lugn....frid. Botanicus grundades 1638 först som en örtagård med medicinalväxter. Örter och medicinalväxter var nödvändiga och viktiga ingredienser när medicin skulle tillverkas. Pesten hade dragit fram och Amsterdam stad grundade Hortus Botanicus eller de Hortus som holländarna säger. Apotekare och doktorer utbildades i framställning av recept på Hortus.
The Hortus Botanicus is one of the oldest botanic gardens in the world. Over 4,000 species growing in the garden and greenhouses. The Hortus Botanicus is located in the Plantage district on the edge of the hectic center of Amsterdam. Behind the 300-year-old gates, however, the bustle of the city disappear.Originally, the Hortus was a medicinal herb garden, founded in 1638 by the Amsterdam City Council. At that time, herbs were of vital importance as the basis of medicines and the city had just experienced a plague epidemic. Doctors and pharmacists trained in the preparation of prescriptions at the Hortus.

Åh, härligt att bo i Waxholm! Vilken härlig trädgårdsblogg du har! Jag är intresserad av trädgård men har ingen imponerande trädgård själv, måste ta tag i det! :)

botaniska trädgårdar är väl det vackraste och bra för den biologiska mångfalden! Det kommer ju få ett än mer betydande syfte iom klimatförändringarna och jag hoppas att än fler borde/skall upprättas!
Spännande. Jag har i Rom besökt Orto Botanico, som skapades 1545, såg Cyperus papyrus växa i kryddgården.
That seems to be a beautiful botanicAL garden indeed mummy! A colourful contrast next to the busy streets and canals of Amsterdam. Friday evening and I am just about to enjoy fresh asparagus and goats cheese - a seasonal delight?! :) How are your asparagus plants coming along?
Arrrgh! opportunities missed: I had a lay-over of 8 + hours in Amsterdam on my way home from Ethiopia....
The aspargus is just 3 cm but....next friday if the weather is good... enshala... we will have our first harvest! / minimum Tyra

I'd left a comment before but it disappeared it seems. Glad you enjoyed your stay in my country. The Keukenhof is wonderfull, isn't it? And the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam is good but there is also an old one in Leiden. I used to go often to the one in Leiden as I lived close by, years ago.
