Tyra's Garden is a small garden on the island of Resarö situated in the inner part of the archipelago near the small town Vaxholm, outside Stockholm. Tyra's Garden is mostly an ornamental vegetable garden, my potager. But flowers are of course an important ingredience, for beauty and pollination. The climate in these parts is quite demanding as the northerly winds can be strong and cold. THIS BLOG 'Tyra's Garden' is not entirely a gardenblog it contains much more. It's Blooooming Friday! - Blomming Fredag

.
Hip, hip, Hurrah, Hippeastrum

I cannot possibly think of a better way to start this year than with these magnificent flowers. It’s Bloooming Friday again and I give you a shower or rather a bang-boom of ‘flowering fireworks’.

...

We call it Amaryllis but it is a Hippeastrum...

Hippeastrum is a genus of about 70–75 species and 600+ hybrids and cultivars of bulbous plants in the family Amaryllidaceae, native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas from Argentina north to Mexico and the Caribbean. Some species are grown for their large showy flowers. These plants are popularly but erroneously known as Amaryllis, an African genus in the same family. Wikipedia

...

Your flowers are lovely. This is one of my favorite blooming plants. I planted mine to have blooms in late January, and the buds are about three inches high now. I can hardly wait for them to bloom and brighten up deary winter.

Your 'blooming Friday' is 'blooming beautiful', dear Tyra!

In my home we like to call them 'Convent Lilies' because they're always seen in the gardens planted by the nuns in convents . They always looked beautiful there.... power of prayer, maybe?
Happy New Year, Tyra

MEN!

Oh no, I call them Amaryllis all the time ~ so, if I'm reading your post correctly, that is not right??? I need to get informed about this! I am enjoying some blooms at the moment too ~ different colors than yours tho. I love the coloring on your 'Candy Floss.' It's just gorgeous.

I've got Amaryllis blooming, too! ('White Peacock' at the moment)

Is 'Candy Floss' more of a coral than true pink? It kind of looks like it in your photo. If so, I'll have to buy that one next year.
