A small step on the computer (just a click) but a huge step for the gardener.
Seeds for my potager and images for the collage are from Impecta
Phiouu…( wonderful spelling isn’t it) it was not an easy task this year to order the seeds for my potager. I have been reading those glossy catalogues since last year but now it is done. It took me hours to decide which ones to choose. Most of them are actually new for me,
these herb and medicinal plants for example:
Marrubium vulgare (kransborre) White Horehound
Monarda citriodore (Citron bergamot) Lemon mint, lemon beebalm
Mentha pulegium (polejmynta) Pennyroyal (poisonous)
Malva sylvestrs mauritiana (Mauritansk rödmynta) Mallow
What a coincidence, all of them begin with M.
I told you folks earlier that I am a 'seedaholic' and with that I mean I love seeds and cannot live without them. Most of my seeds I plant or perhaps it is 50 % are seeds that I have collected from last seasons harvest. This year I didn’t order any tomato seeds! I have so many varieties from last year and they are old heirloom seeds so I think I will just do fine with those I have.
Seeds 2009 - I made this collage over all the seeds for the potager. I’ve got one flowers here that I bought just for fun. Canna indica - (also known as saka siri, Indian shot, canna, bandera, chancle, coyol, or platanillo) It was a pretty picture and I fell for it... I read in wikipedia that it is edible, the Canna rhizome is rich in starch, and it has many uses in agriculture. All of the plant has commercial value, rhizomes for starch (consumption by humans and livestock), stems and foliage for animal fodder, young shoots as a vegetable and young seeds as an addition to tortillas, but as I said I just fell for it’s beauty.

It is so very nice to here from you all so do write something - don't be a stranger/

Kram Karin
I am still working my way through seed catalogues. So many seeds, so tempting!
Kram Eva Linnea
Hi Tyra, I'm sure I bought too many seeds for my new little vegetable garden. I want to plant a little of everything! It's so hard to narrow down. Are those bright orange squash Kuri? That's my favorite squash. Yum! Delicious!
It looks like you will have a bountiful potager in 2009!
Love the collage-what a good job!
Your poster is beautiful! I would hang it on the wall in my mosaic shed! You will be eating like a queen this summer! gail
An enchanting post, dear Tyra! I foresee lots of fun ahead ... just curious about ... Mentha pulegium (polejmynta) Pennyroyal (poisonous)?
I am a seed aholic too Tyra, and a plant aholic!:) It is fun ...isn't it..and hard to choose from all the wonderful varieties~my problem I want to try at least one of everything!:) Beautiful collage!
Happy New Year Tyra!
Cat
Oooh! That collage looks so tempting and colourful! Very summery. I wish you luck and great growing with all those seeds.
I didnt know Canna rhizomes could be eaten! And we have cannas growing all over the place in India. Well, I certainly learnt something new today :)
There's something so magical and joyous about seeds; it's amazing that something so small can produce a wealth of delights, from foods to shade trees to blue poppies. I'm excited for you!
Oh yea! Canna is everyone's fave here. Good luck with your seeds 2009. May the seeds paint a lush green and adorn them with other colors this year!
TYRA'S GARDEN My Favourite Tomatoes
Kram Tyra
Hi Easygardener, yes I agree it is hard work!
Hi Linda, I always end up with too seeds and plants...but as I said I'm a seed aholic. Yes it is a Kuri isn't it wonderful.
Hi Tina and thank you.
Hi Gail, you have a mosaic shed! You haven't showed it to us yet...hm exciting.
Hi Joey, yes the Pennyroyal is poisonous I will tell you more about it in a coming post, I'm working on it. I will not grow it for consumption, it is a low growing mint and I want to have a mint that I can walk on and get the wonderful scent of mint.
LOLove Tyra
Hi Cat and Happy New Year to you too dear Catherine. Ah, so you too are a 'seedaholic'... it is nice to hear that I'm not alone :-)
Hello Sunita and Chandramouli, I know you are so very lucky girls that lives in the land of the Cannas. Yes you can eat them but I don't think they are very tasty, did you know that you can eat the rhizomes of the
Dahlias as well?
Hi Jodi, I would love to have some blue poppies but last year I tryed and failed completely therefore this year I will buy one!
Kram Tyra
Tyra, you have a very beautiful blog here! Thank you for inviting. I like your seeds. I usually grow mostly Italian herbs for the kitchen every year, drying them so I have them all year. This year will be no exception. I will also plant wild flowers including the notorious milkweed to attract a variety of wildlife into the garden. My garden is very young, only 7 years old. But roses are really my thing.
Thank you for letting me read your blog.
Julie (flowers forum)
Hi Tyra! That's such a cheerful display you have here and so much nicer than just a list of seeds. We can see your garden dreams for 2009 so much more easily :)
You asked about parsnips over at my place. They're easy to grow once you've got the seed germinated, but they can be tempramental at that stage. They also require a long growing season. Your question made me realise I'd forgotten to link to last week's post where I gave plenty of information and hints and tips for growing them, so thanks for the reminder!
Hi VP and thank you for that most useful information/ Tyra
Hi Tyra
I'm still thinking about mine. I have a small area now for growing veg instead of trying to do so in pots like last year. However I think my wish list exceeds the space I have so I have been looking at harvesting times to see how I can maximise the space!
Think I have nearly made a decision on the tomatos though
Hi Helen how about a vertical garden :-)
Hi Tyra, you have made some wonderful selections and shown them nicely in the collage too. Good job! I also find it hard to choose, and just pick some and order them with little rhyme or reason, just impulse buying! HA I am trying new tomatoes, they start to easily and grow well here, a can't miss crop!
Frances
Hi Tyra--oh my goodness, the collage of the seed-packets is gorgeous! You have chosen a huge amt. of seeds...too many for me (!) but if you can handle all of them then I'm happy for you. I don't have the space for them, and probably not the green thumb for them either:) I will look forward to seeing them grow and blossom!! Jan
Hi Frances and thank you. Ah funny you have the same expression 'rhyme and reason', rim och reson./ xoxo Tyra
Hi Jan, too many for my garden too, it ends up with +300 pots and giving away plants to all my friends.:-)
I told you I'm a 'seedaholic'!
xoxo Tyra
Kram
Annika
What a wonderful collage Tyra and great way to see what you'll be growing in just a glance. You're going to have a fabulous garden this year I can tell. I am slow on the seed ordering. Haven't done mine yet but maybe your post will motivate me?!!!
Hi Kathleen, I don't know about 'fabulous garden' but I'll certainly will do my best and have fun on the way.
xoxo Tyra
Love the collage, it's so attractive! About the edible bit (canna), it's new to me. Amazing what a great learning experience garden blogging can be!
I already have most of my flower seeds, but it is still too soon to start my indoor sowing. I don't have a vegetable garden.
I love your colorful collage!
Tyra, what a beautiful montage you have created, the colours are full of life. Your potager is going to be a good place to be this summer, and I look forward to seeing it.
Hi Kanak, it is amazing isn't it. I learn new things every single day.
Hi Robin, I have to wait until February too, but we are soon there. No vegetables? Do try to blend in a cabbage among your flowers they can be ornamental and good for you.:-)
Hi Karen and thank you. The collage was fun to make and it really gives you a good view over what I'm going to plant.
xoxo Tyra
Hejsan Tyra!
kram Tyra
i am so looking forward to Spring!
Hi The Muse I think we are a huge club! We are all yearning for warmth and sunshine.
Take care my friend/ Tyra
Hi Tyra
Wonderful to see your blog. Now in Canada, but I have been gardening in Denmark for many, many years. I haven't orderen my seeds yet - just cannot decide. Better get at it.
Love your garden
I am in a sea of white snow under nearly colorless sky--your beautiful, colorful poster makes me so excited for spring!
Hi Lene and welcome into my garden, please to meet you.
Hi Susan, I have NO snow and I think that is boring. I liked your Chick lit. post and good luck with your chicks now.
xoxo Tyra
Hi again Tyra
Pleased to meed you too. Maybe it is easier for both of us in English?
Hi again, English will be fine, I'm a Salix fan and I found your site very interesting. I an urged to learn more about the genus Salix.
xoxo Tyra
