Harvest Monday in Tyra’s garden - Tomatoes, blackberries and Sea-buckthorn.
Harvest of my Sea-buckthorn
I planted my Sea-buckthorn bushes a few years ago, three Juliet (female) and one Romeo (male plant) and this is my first harvest ever! This amazing power-food-berry has a fantastic exotic taste and of all the berries of the earth Sea buckthorn is probably that one berry that contains most vitamins in large quantities.
~~~
This is what Wikipedia says about Sea-buckthorn berries - The fruit of the plant has a high vitamin C content—in a range of 114 to 1550 mg per 100 grams with an average content (695 mg per 100 grams) about 12 times greater than Oranges— placing sea-buckthorn fruit among the most enriched plant sources of vitamin C[1]. The fruit also contains dense contents of carotenoids, vitamin E, amino acids, dietary minerals, β-sitosterol and polyphenolic acids.
~~~

I had not heard of Sea Buckhorn before. It sounds wonderful.
That's a new plant to me also. The berries are beautiful. How do you use it?
Michelle, I make an apple and buckthorn preserve or I use them to flavour desserts. Usually I put them in the freezer and eat them raw as a vitamin booster during the winter months.
I've never heard of that plant either. I'm glad someone else asked how to use it because it would have been my question too.
Congratulations on your success with Sea Buckthorn. For those that want the some cold pressed berry oil or seed oil they can get it shipped direct from Estonia at vikingvigor.com
I don't think I ever heard of Sea Buckthorn, much less that it is edible. I also want to know what to do with it. Is it just the oil that one would use?
/Ruben
Ännu ett bär att önska till trädgården. Grattis till första skörden!
I'm not familiar with this fruit. What do you do with all them delicious berries after you pick them? :)
Hi Tyra... thanks for the introduction and education... you inspired me to want to learn more- http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/crops/facts/seabuckthorn.htm
I will have to find a couple Juliets and one Romeo too! Beautiful photos and great harvest! Carol
May I try some this weekend? :)
Häller sen i isbitsfack. Utan socker...
Fantastiskt fin blogg!
