Crab Cactus - A Light in the Darkness of November

This post 'A light in the Darkness of November - Crab Cactus' was originally uploaded by Tyra in the blog Tyra's Garden

Crab Cactus

a.k.a Thanksgiving cactus Schlumbergera truncata just perfect 'in floribus' in time for Thanksgiving.

Thank God for durable colourful winterflowering houseplants that costs next to nothing, like the African Violets, Kalanchoes, and this Crab Cactus they really helps us through the dark winter months especially now in the darkest month of them all November.

The Schlumbergera belongs to the Cactaceae family and lives wild in the tropical rainforest, it is an epiphytes what lives on rocks or in trees. On our window ledge they prefer welldrained soil with good aeration and hate to be waterlogged. Needs to be repotted just every third year, that's good isn't it.

Happy Thanksgiving to you All!

Such bright and cheerful flowers Tyra. I am interested to hear you call them crab cactus - we call them Christmas cactus :)

Good Morning Anna I think this cactus got a lot of nicknames and Crab cactus is one I guess it resembles a crab. We call it Easter cactus when it blooms in the early spring and of course Christmas cactus if it is a late bloomer :-)

Sweetday Thank you!

I've never heard it called this name before Tyra! By any name tho, it's beautiful in bloom. I hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving too.

Vilken underbar färg - precis vad man behöver just nu.

Oh look! You've got one, too! :-) Now that is a pretty shade of salmon. I don't think I've seen that color here before.
