Asparagus leaves and herbs for the garden

Today we have thunder and lightning one minute and the other the sun is out here in Vaxholm. This is what we call typical April wheather hm...but it's May. So when the wheather is like this I think we shall have a nice bowl of soup for dinner together with a fresh baked bread and a nice cheese. I have some nice nettles behind a shed I think I will take some of those as well that will be perfect.

Soup with Asparagus and Garden greens.

1 small onion or leek
4 handfuls of mixed greens and herbs
Asparagus
6 dl nice stock of your choice
1 generous knob of butter and 1 tablespoon of flour
1 dl white wine

salt and pepper

Cut the asparagus into small pieces (save the tips for decoration) and chop the onion and greens. Melt butter and add onion sizzle for a minute, then add the vegetables and last the flour. Pour in the liquid and boil for a few minutes. Now you can either put it in the blender or leave it as it is. If you blend the soup add the tips after mixing and boil an additional 3 minutes.

Serve with a nice rustique country bread or croutons.

Sigrid's Iris - inquiry

Does anybody know the name of this beautiful Iris? Right now I have it under the name Iris 'Sigrid' and I cannot just rename flowers like that :-) Sigrid is a dear friend of mine that gave them to me last summer. I would be very glad for all information.

Är det någon som kan hjälpa mej med namnet på den här underbara lilla irisen. Just nu går den under namnet Iris ' Sigrid' efter min gode vän Sigrid som gav den till mej. Sigrid hade i sin tur fått den av en vän och visste inte namnet på den. Är det nägon som vet så snälla hör av er till mej. Tacksam för all hjälp. Tulips in the gravel - Tulipa

Do you remember that I did some late planting of bulbs in November last year?

Here are the result, tulips in the gravel! I just love botanical tulips and my deers doesn't likes then, perfect. I think I like them so much because they are 'in floribus' early and they are so small, pretty and really genuine looking. When it's cold they close up and says -"We are freezing where is the sun" and when the sun comes and warm the tulips they opens up and says in a tulip choir - "Look at me, look how beautiful I am!" Some of the them are extremely early and they had already bloomed over when I took this photo below.

Kaufmanniana Tulips were developed from the Tulipa kaufmanniana species, which is native to Turkestan. They are some of the earliest tulips to flower. Kaufmanniana Tulips are generally very low growing (some are only 4 - 5"/10 - 12 cm tall), which makes them ideal for rock gardens and containers. Tulipa 'Persian Pearl' or 'Eastern Star' it said Eastern star on the packet but they look more like Persian Pearl correct me if I'm wrong.

These are the really early ones the Greigii Tulipa

Greigii Tulips were developed from the Tulipa greigii species, which is native to Turkestan. Greigii Tulips are fairly short as tulips go, but the blooms are very large in proportion to the plant as a whole. Good Morning

Friday morning just before six o'clock. I just couldn't sleep anymore. Got out of bed, made a coffee and took a walk in the garden....what a glorious morning.

Tänk att morgonar kan vara så underbara, såhär års kan man bara inte ligga kvar i sängen och gona, nej man bara måste ut och njuta av soluppgången och den sköna friska morgonluften. Fullständigt underbart jag vet inget som kan mäta sig med dessa ljuvliga vårmorgonar.

The morning sun heats up the greenhouse very fast and it is so pleasant to take the morning coffee in there now even if it is this early....

Nordiska Trädgårdar 2008 Nordic Gardens

Oh....it was so crowded, we arrived to the exhibition hall one hour after it opened and we couldn't even park the car! After 20 minutes we finally found a spot to park. Here are some pictures of a few things that caught my eyes.Nordiska Trädgårdar 2008, Balcony Specials.

Precis som utställningen i somras Ulriksdals Flower Show hade de även här en balkong utställning och det är ju alltid trevligt att titta på.
A garden lady in a straw hat, the gardening people have a certain 'dress code' they love straw hats and colorful shoes and Wellington boots with hip design.

Så här års när jag går ut i trädgården känner jag mej som en Bag Lady, lager på lager på lager med varma kläder, flisväst hatt och handskar hela köret! I den lilla hallen på Älvsjö Mässan hade de samlat alla sällskap - Pomologiska Sällskapet, Pelargon , Biodlare, St:Paula, Bonzai etc. sällskapen. STA som jag är medlem i hade också en monter.

At the fair it was a lot! of design & inspiration companies. The materials for 2008 are concrete, zinc and willow and still a lot of white stuff of course. Even the flowers are white. Vitt vitt vitt håller i sig fortfarande, toner av vitt, drömmar i vitt, vila i vitt och så vidare......

Gladiolus Corms for sale! and there were a lot of Dahlias and Lilies to. It was so hard to choose I wanted them all to come home with me but I didn't by any! I ended up with 4 different Chilie plants one from each of these countries Burkina Faso, Brazil, 'Czechoslovakia' and Bolivia and now they are on my veranda with all there friends.....

Nu har jag planterat mina nya små vänner i större krukor och god jord så nu är det bara att vänta på solen och värmen så att jag kan få ställa ut dem i växthuset....när nu det blir, det går lite trögt med våren tycker jag.

This picture that I have called Inspiration and Details it is from the Garden Fair - Nordic Gardens.

Details - The small things in a design that completes 'the picture' you are striving for. The final touch are so important for the end result, it can be totally perfect and wonderful with the correct details and on the other hand so intolerably awful and ruin the hole thing if the details are wrong. I found a few companies at the fair that had those small details for indoor as well as outdoor design and they were very inspirational indeed. This is one of them - Fröken Tvärsemot. Funny and pretty stuff with a little bit of country romance.

This is a flower shop at Alvik called Blåregn (the swedish for Wisteria). A small shop with a lot of lovely details, very inspiring. The plants are very well presented in boxes and baskets. This is a shop I can recommend.

En söt liten blomsteraffär i Alvik, massor av små fina detaljer och fina blommor, mycket inspirerande att se. Just nu full av underbara vårblommor här på bilden i ljuvliga violetta färger. Jag kom hit av en slump direkt efter mitt besök på Trädgårdsmässan, Nordiska trädgårdar i Älvsjö och även efter den tyckte jag att den här lilla shoppen var riktigt imponerande.

Nordic Gardens - the annual Garden Fair

Today is the day that the big annual Garden Fair opens - Nordic Gardens, the biggest garden exhibition in the Nordic region. They open today at ten and I have been invited to visit this event by a blog admire....someone who actually likes my blogs :), thank you very much. I will take my daughter with me and of course my camera and tomorrow I'll give you a guided tour.

I found this lovely group of flowers this morning aren't they pretty together?

Black and white or in colour?

This is my new "ballballconeballballcone flower bed" with Buxus that I planted last autumn.This picture is not a black and white photo, it's March... I thought that the winter was gone but oh no. I know ....it is pretty with snow but I'm so fed up with the winter and I want my garden to be in colour - lush and green! Come spring and make it green!Now and then, oh I really do prefere my garden in colour.

I just love the colour of green, don’t know why but I do. I think the love for the colour green grows with time; I mean I didn’t think about it when I started out with gardening a long time ago. Then the flowers and the colours were much more important. Today I think more of the foliage, the structure and the different shades of green. C’est très important n’est-ce pas ? Don’t you agree ? Grün, GRÖN, Green ....Vert - C'est formidable
