Tyra's Garden is a small garden on the island of Resarö situated in the inner part of the archipelago near the small town Vaxholm, outside Stockholm. Tyra's Garden is mostly an ornamental vegetable garden, my potager. But flowers are of course an important ingredience, for beauty and pollination. The climate in these parts is quite demanding as the northerly winds can be strong and cold. THIS BLOG 'Tyra's Garden' is not entirely a gardenblog it contains much more. Highgate Cemetery - London

Highgate Cemetery
(Western)
...
Today I'm going to show you some pictures from my visit to this amazing place called Highgate Cemetery, just about one hour from the City of London's hectic pulse. I'm a huge fan and admirer of this enchanted spot on earth. It lush, green, so very beautiful and calm.
...
The family Tomb of Samuel Whitfield.

The cemetery's grounds are full of mature trees, shrubbery and wild flowers all of which have been planted and grown without human influence. ( I don't think that is completely true) I found a numerous wild flowers like for instance Bluebells Scilla non-scripta and Ramsons Allium ursinum. The guide told me that in a few weeks the wild poppies Papaver will bloom and can you imagine the red 'lanterns' lighten up the grounds. It must be wonderful. The grounds are a haven for birds and small animal. The cemeterys tree crowns form a wonderful most amazing canopy and the sound in the cemetery or the lack of noice is overwhelming.
I think this old tree below is a Lebanon Cedar

Catacomb of P.W. Talbot
The Highgate cemetery is devided into two parts the West and the East Cemetery. All my pictures here are from the West Cemetery. This Victorian Cemetery was opened in 1839. The initial design was by the architect Stephen Geary.

'Although its most famous occupant in the east cemetery is probably Karl Marx (whose tomb's attempted bombing in 1970 is still recalled by some Highgate residents), there are many other prominent figures, Victorian and otherwise, buried at Highgate Cemetery.' Facts from Wikipedia read more here

I love old cemeteries, they have so much character and I don't find them creepy at all, only beautiful like you show. I can say from personal experience that bluebells grow with zero help from people! Poppies too. Sounds like you had a fun trip!

Underbart. Jag skickade dit min yngste son vid ett Londonbesök. Han var helt betagen o kom hem med fina bilder. Vill gärna själv en dag stå där! Tack för bilderna!

Hello Tyra !
Isn't it amazing how beautiful some cemeteries are ? This is such an interesting one with a long history.
People are some how put off seeing these places for the beauty of the plants and works of art because they are cemeteries.
Kingston has an awesome historical (yet still active) cemetery that has the first prime minister of Canada buried in it.
The thought in landscaping and staues .. water features .. all of it is one huge GARDEN ? LOL

Very olde world isn't it? Sure takes one back and is timeless.

It looks a fascinating place, very peaceful. I'm rather embarrassed that I've never visited, even though I lived in North London at one time.
